About Me, Alexia-Renee
You may have asked yourself, how can one be a food enthusiast but detest cheese?
Well, that’s me! I love to cook and eat and learn about the history of food. I especially enjoy it when food and art intersect, as I’m also an artist.
My love of art was inherent. At a young age, I was constantly drawing or coloring, even on the walls, as a way to express my creativity. Always the first to go through a box of crayons because I was constantly sharpening them to sketch.
Similar to art, my love of food was instilled in me as a child. Always at the kitchen table, I would watch everyone attempt to dance around each other while preparing a meal and typically got roped into helping with the dishes. Even when I would be outside with other children, I would convince them to make mud “pies” to sell along the block.
During my undergraduate studies, my focus was in studio art and art history. This presented me with opportunities to help curate exhibitions at the Gund Gallery in Gambier, Ohio, and the Kelsey Museum in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Once I moved back home, I started working in a pizzeria and at Anthropologie. These jobs had elements for my passion for food and art, though I wasn’t able to combine professionally.
Though I am highly allergic to most food groups, I love to create dishes that are intricate and whimsical, just like my art. Currently living in New York City, I am still trying to figure out how to combine these two fields and this site serves as an empty dish for me to work through and plate my ideas.
Remember how I said I hated cheese? Well, some fun facts about me are that I love pizza but I ALWAYS remove the cheese. Working in a pizzeria was a learning curve for me and my colleagues. The Stinky Cheese Man is my worst nightmare and I believe cheese should only be used in cheesy puns… because I’m getting really feta-up with how much people love it.
